We left Valleyview around 7AM the next day. Gas was $1.44 in Grand Prairie where we went for breakfast the next morning. Cora Breakfast & Lunch there had amazing breakfast! Some original choices too! I had never heard of this chain, but apparently there are 125 location across the Canada – their branding showed that they are very kid friendly! We both opted for a crepe filled with egg and sausage, topped with sun-dried tomatoes and goat cheese plus a side of bacon for the dogs (yes, they are spoiled!)! Oh man, it was tasty! While we waited for it to be ready, I took the dogs for their morning walk. With fresh breakfast on the go, we continued our journey. The plan was to make it to Watson Lake area, which is about 1200 km.
Things we noted along the way, and this may be a good thing for anyone to remember when on a long road trip, don’t pack your toothbrush in your suitcase, but have it handy somewhere at all times! Same with foldable chairs! Last night we had them all still packed away but when you only sleep somewhere you are not going to unpack everything!
We finally hit the BC border around 8:50AM and that gained us an hour time difference. At the Mile 0 sign in Dawson Creek reposted our first Crowsnest Connect Sticker on the sign, with all the other travellers stickers! And we made sure to fill up our gas, which was $1.79/liter. On our way to Fort Nelson it turned out to be a good thing, as there are no gas stations in-between. It is around 450 km from Dawson Creek to Fort Nelson.
It is funny, as I am going through my notes that I took in the car, some of the stuff we saw is already gone from my memory. I have a note about a heritage museum along the way, where we must have talked to someone, as it says: “They promise us bison on the road by Muncho Lake”… I don’t recall this at all! Note to self, take photos of everything, just in case! It was 34 Celsius this day. At 5PM, we were kinda done driving and wanted to enjoy the beautiful warm weather and set up camp at Summit Lake Campground – from here it was around 340 km to Watson Lake but we bailed early. We found a great little spot near the water. Jeff seized the opportunity to jump in and refresh! Brave man!
We noticed there that we somehow had ripped the cord between the trailer and the car for the lights, it was completely shredded. We needed to make it to Whitehorse in order to get a new one and fix it. Jeff is super handy! The leaves are starting to turn into fall colours already.
